Triple N Ranch Winery will be planting our first Vineyard and want for you be a part of the story…

In November 2020, we will ready the ground and soil, build trellis’s and lay irrigation to an acre preparing to plant our very first varietals, Caminare Noire and Paseante Noir ½ acre of each from UC (Davis). These new hybrids, Caminare Noir and Paseante Noir, have been grafted by U.C. (Davis) and immerged as strong-disease resistant vines that God-willing, will withstand Texas climate and soil type. Caminare Noir and Paseante Noir were created to enhance the very best characteristics from its parent grapes to produce wines that would thrive in states like Texas.

In this next coming year, we will put these grapes to the test at Triple N Ranch Winery, with the help of Texas A & M Viticulture specialists and our friends and faculty from Grayson College Viticulture Program. Our goal is to start small with this one acre block, ½ an acre of each varietal as we learn, remain hopeful a bit of French character will find its home in our local southeast Texas soil – and, of course, wine glasses.

A little background about grape vines:

  • During the first 2 years the vines will undergo radical pruning and training to ensure that we get uniform fruit development.
  • The 3rd year of growth will produce some grapes, but it is usually a very small harvest. This is also when the classic trellis training begins for the vine.
  • 4th year vines will produce a harvest at about a 50% yield, while the rootstock is still growing and developing.
  • The full harvest potential of the vines will be achieved at 7-10 years of age and each vine can average around 25 pounds of grapes!

We are very excited about the delicious Camminare Noir and Paseante Noir grapes that these vines will produce in the future. Please stop by the winery anytime and come enjoy the view with a glass of wine!

Camminare Noir

07355-075—50% Petite Sirah, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon: This red wine grape makes wines with characteristics of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Commercial scale wines have been made from established test plots along the Napa River. This selection is early to break dormancy, bloom and ripen. It produces relatively large berries, with well-filled clusters of medium size. It has tested to be highly PD-resistant and has a 94% V. vinifera level. It has ranked highly at numerous tastings of both Davis and Napa grown fruit. Tasting descriptions include: dark red-purple in color, bright red fruit, raspberry, cherry, ripe, tannic and elegant rather than dense.

Paseante Noir

09331-047—50% Zinfandel, 25% Petite Sirah, 12.5% Cabernet Sauvignon: A red wine grape with characteristics of Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, highly PD-resistant with 97% V. vinifera. Commercial scale wines have been made from established field trials near the Napa River and from Temecula. Blooms relatively late but ripens mid-season. Medium-sized berries and large well-filled clusters. It is spur fruitful but typically has only one cluster per shoot and is more productive with cane pruning. Tasting comments include: medium dark red with purple color, berry pie, cassis, black olive, herbal, dried hay, coffee, vegetal like Cabernet Sauvignon, licorice, round, moderate tannins, and soft finish.
